“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” [Romans 12:2]
As much as we read our opening verse, little actually study and meditate upon it. Throughout the church today, we see how many who calls themselves ‘believers’are conformed to this world. I want to draw your attention to one of Paul’s writings in 1 Corinthians 9:10-17; where it is evident that he took this opening verse of ours litteral:

“For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things? If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power [right]; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ. Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel. But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void. For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel! For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me”
We shouldn’t just read these verses in scripture, but meditate thereon. These are not written for the sake of mere reading, but for meditation so that these things may dwell in our hearts; to stir up our spirits so that we may apply the scripture [in full]. If people can only wake up to this; the Gospel is suffering by the ignorance of the church in these days; and it is mainly through those who abuse these things. Believers has no conformed to the ways of unbelievers who speaks against giving in the church; our minds have been poisoned by selfish and greedy ministering spirits.
I personally can testify to what Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 9:10-17; ‘…I have not used this power [right]; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.’ I have invested not only in preaching the Gospel of Christ, but also in giving towards the cause of reaching souls with the Gospel of Christ.
Another translation renders what Paul wrote to the church in Corinth this way:
‘It was written for us, because the one plowing and threshing ought to work in hope of enjoying the harvest. If we sowed spiritual blessings among you, is it too much to reap material things from you? If others receive this right from you, are we not more deserving? But we have not madeuse of this right. Instead we endure everything so that we may not be a hinderance to the Gospel of Christ. Don’t you know that those who serve in the Temple eat food from the Temple; and those who serve at the altar receive a part of the offerings? In the same way the Lord commanded those who proclaim the Gospel to receive their living by the Gospel…’
In as much as Paul has dedicated his life in serving the Gospel; people didn’t want to support him, yet they have greatly benefitted from his teachings. The church in Berea grasped this concept and they understood the commandment. Let’s take a look at what the churc at Berea done: “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so “ [Acts 17:11].
A large number of the church has conformed to the world; they are no be led by the Spirit; they incline their ear to the preaching of unbelievers and immitate their behavior – but the Gospel is not hindered by unbelievers, but by the believers who in ignorance of the need has become selfish. On a weekly basis I deal with men and women who has dedicated their lives to the course of preaching the Gospel, who has little to no finacial support. These men and women work, but receive no income for their living; yet they continue their work, growing weaker and weaker as those who are hearing their message are being strengthned day by day. When some men and women fall away because of financial decay, they become the talk of the time; even ‘believers’ carry this news on their lips, yet done nothing to support such vision to preach and take the Gospel further.
Church is not a business; but it is a commandment from the Lord to ‘Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house…’ with a blessing to the giver; ‘…and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it’ [Mal.3:10]. When you look after the one who teach you and the works of the Gospel, God will look after you. See the verse after verse 10; ‘And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.’ This is a promise from God to the giver who brings his/her tithes into the storehouse [church], that there may be meat in God’s House.
Dear brothers and sister; I speak these things unto you today, not to make your pastors rich, not to make me rich; but for you to partner with men and women of God who has dedicated their lives to the preaching of the Gospel. Those who has dedicated their lives to full-time ministry has made great sacrifices; and in most cases, they have out give themselves, not only financially; but their sacrifices has been family, friends, a steady income, they have lost their independence and security, they have given everything; and even the last little bit they have, they still give to others before they give to their own household. These are the true servants of the Lord; these are the ones who have served you – don’t let them suffer any longer; partner with them, take this Gospel we preach to the world, support the vision of those who feed you spiritual food – there’s many more souls starving out there that you might not be able to reach, but partnering with your man/woman of God, those in darkness can also be brought into light.
Your giving enables the church to populate Heaven and depopulate hell, because the more materials the church can make available, the more souls will be won. Let’s take a look at what scripture says about this: “Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things” [Gal.6:6]. Paul ask this question to the church of Corinth; “If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?” [1Cort.9:11]; and further continues to say: “Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel” [1Cort.9:14].
The Bible is full of scripture in support of giving to the church; and also providing for those who dedicated their lives in theaching the church; we should not ignore this. “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward” [1Tim.5:17-18]
I can pull out many other verses that supports giving to the church and providing to those who teach you; but I’m sure you get the point here – be in support of those who are teaching you, so that they can expand their reach and reach many more lost souls for the Kingdom of God. We all have a God-given responsibility in to further the Gospel; and what better way to do so than to give to the course. You are part of something great, don’t loose it…
God bless you!
