Some wonder sometimes at if Jesus had defeated satan and had overcome the world, why then is the demonic so active in our world. Knowledge and understanding of God’s Word is life unto those who believe. Through the testimony of God’s Word given to us, we can come to the understanding that satan is truly a defeated foe; however, without the knowledge of God’s Word, he can still easily deceive us. Now deception is not a power, but a lie – and when we believe a lie, it can become our reality until we come to the truth of such matters. Throughout God’s Word, we are encouraged to equip ourselves with the Word of God, which will bring Godly discernment.
For example; if you had walked into a kitchen and saw the stove was off, then turn your back while someone else sneaked in behind you to put the stove’s plate on; you are unaware of it. You might want to stretch over the stove for something else, and without knowing, place your hand on the hot plate – you going to get burned. You might want to blame someone, but the bottom line is that you turned your back and therefore had no knowledge of the plate being turned on. We do that concerning the Word of God as well; we sometimes come up with an excuse not to open our Bible’s, or are busy with less important things – indirectly turning our backs on knowledge. When satan has deceived us, we act all surprised; yet if we had remained in the Word, we would of been able to discern the plot of satan.
Now we want to shift your attention for a moment to the beginning when God created the world. I’m going to shortly explain something here; so pay close attention…
When God made man in Genesis 1:27, He made and blessed that man. When God formed man in Genesis 2:7, He picked up the dust from the earth and blow life into man; telling man to go and reproduce on earth. The difference between these 2 men are; the man of Genesis 1:27 is a spirit-being; and the man of Genesis 2:7 is a human-being. It is the spirit-man of Genesis 1:27 who received dominion, but the physical-man of Genesis 2:7 was given the ability to reproduce after itself – take note that God never gave the flesh dominion; yet you can be well in your flesh when you stick close to God.
God never intended for Adam to die; hence He warned Adam not to eat from the tree of knowledge.. Man was deceived by satan, because he had no knowledge of the tree. God gave Adam and Eve a specific instruction; however, they disobeyed God when satan showed up. Ever since, man suffered with the lack of obedience which leads to death – and we see this throughout the Old Testament. God gave His children instructions and even laws to live by; yet they could not fulfill those laws through disobedience. Today we still see that in the weakness of the flesh. Thank God for preparing the way, the truth and the life of our salvation; for Jesus came to fulfill the law, so that our ties with the first man Adam can be cut; and that we may have a new tie with the second Adam Jesus Christ (1Cort.15:45).
Jesus came to give back to us that which satan has taken from the first man. Dominion was never given to satan on earth; yet man traded that dominion. Like Esua who has traded his birth rights with his brother Jacob (Gen.25:29-34); so to the transaction between Adam and satan became a legal entity through the success of deceive. Adam lacked the knowledge of the tree, therefore he was deceived.
This now we should understand: Because dominion was given to the spirit-man; and that man has lost his dominion to satan due to sin – Jesus had to come to literally take back that dominion / authority to rule from satan. However, the only way man can get back that dominion is through being reborn (John3:3/Rom.10:9). Upon salvation we are filled with the Spirit of dominion, which is the Holy Spirit. This is remarkable; because the folks of old lost dominion due to sin, and never regained it. They had to live by the Law given to Moses; but no man could keep this Law. Therefore Jesus came to fulfill the Law in order to bring about a new life – the life of a Christian which are obtained through Jesus Christ (Rom.10:9).
Furthermore; 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us another remarkable truth of the new life of a Christian believer – ‘If any man be in Christ, he IS a new creation; the old life HAS passed away, BEHOLD, a new life HAS begun.” Take not of the words quoted in capital letters. The new man IS a new creation – that is the now reality, present hour truth; but he needs to be in Christ. The old life HAS passed away. The old life was attached to the old you, that person now is dead to God. BEHOLD; this word in Greek translate to see with the eyes of the Spirit / faith. In 2 Corinthians 5:7, Paul tells us through inspiration of the Holy Spirit, that we walk by faith and not by sight. The Christian life is a spiritual life and should be lived from the spirit. Lastly; BEHOLD what? A new life HAS begun. That same life God made in Genesis 1:27 has been given back to those who are now in Christ – a life of the spirit and of dominion.
Being a victim or victor in life depends on the perspective from which you live life. Is your life a life of the physical or a life of the spiritual? Whatever your answer is; how do you determine or measure this life you living? You can only measure this through the knowledge and understanding of the Word; and through seeking the revelation of the Holy Spirit; Who bares witness to us of the Word of God.
“And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it” (Col.2:15).
Jesus openly put devil to shame….
Many Christian fail to fully comprehend what Jesus done for us; hence many live a life of less, whereas we are to be living the triumphal life. Jesus descended into hell were he lined up devil and his cohorts to strip them of power and took away the key of death (Rev.1:18). However, this was done in hell while the fleshly body of Jesus was lying dead in the tomb. So, Jesus couldn’t of publically embarrassed satan in hell; He could only do so in front of those in hell. There is another passage which many of us miss, which is linked to our opening passage.
When Jesus ascended into Heaven, He did not go alone; He ascended along with those who were raised up from the grave. Let’s take a look at the Word:
“and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.”
Also to what’s written in Ephessian 4:8-9
“Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. 9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)”
This lines also with what David said in Psalm 16:10 – ‘For you will not leave my soul in hell…’
This is where Jesus publically and openly embarrassed / put to shame satan. Many witnessed the souls who ascended with Jesus; something no one has ever seen. These were souls under satan’s hold; but Jesus led the captivity captives.
The witnessing of all those who saw Jesus ascension of this event has revealed satan being stripped and defeated by Jesus, openly embarrassed and put to shame. You see, there are no reason for a Christian believer to be a victim; for Jesus Himself has come to give us victory. In closing; let take a look at the last verse in scripture; which will give us the understanding of how to live the triumphal life – Rev.12:11 – “they have overcome him (satan) by the blood of the Lamb; and the word of their testimony.” Wonderful! This is what the Lord said to us in Jeremiah 29:11; ‘For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace , and not of evil, to give you an expected end.’
Knowing the plan of God gives you the advantage to never be disadvantaged in life, for He had made known to us His plan – Hallelujah!
